Social & Environmental Responsibility

Bodhi Surf was founded to not only provide for its owners and employees, but to actively contribute to the community within which it operates. We are committed to being a socially responsible company by:

  • actively participating in the sustainable development of our community
  • promoting environmental awareness among our community and guests
  • contributing to the growth of our youth

Bodhi Surf and Community

As a member of the community of Bahia Ballena, Bodhi Surf actively partners with other organizations that seek the sustainable development of our region. Development is a product of the ever-growing human population and the needs we have as a race; however, we recognize that our resources are finite so we seek to grow in a sustainable manner and encourage others to do so as well.

We are always eager to actively participate in and support sustainable community-driven projects that benefit the community of Bahia Ballena, Uvita, and the rest of the Costa Ballena region.

Bodhi Surf and Youth

The youth, particularly that of the Bahia Ballena – Uvita area, is a demographic that Bodhi Surf supports whole-heartedly by providing free surf lessons, yoga classes, and initiatives such as Grupo SURF, a local youth group started by Bodhi Surf founder Travis Bays.

The objective of Grupo SURF is to introduce the youth of Bahia Ballena to alternative activities, such as surfing and yoga, while contributing to their development with literacy and technology programs.

Bodhi Surf and the Environment

We pride ourselves in teaching respect for the ocean and the idea of working with nature instead of trying to dominate it, which we believe is at the essence of surfing. Being a surfer is closely tied to being in tune with nature, especially with the ocean, which motivates us to do our part and protect our natural resources.

As a company, we make a concerted effort to reduce the impact we have on our natural environment by taking actions that include but are not limited to:

  • Using paper in the office only when there is no alternative
  • Purchasing responsibly-made goods as much as possible
  • Separating garbage at the office, including compost and recycling

Likewise, we work to implement and/or promote environmental conservation programs/activities by partnering with other environmentally conscious organizations.

Last, but certainly not least, we aim to create awareness and appreciation for our environment among those who visit us through the activities and services that we provide.
