Marlon Mora

While teaching, he is always shouting “woooohoooo”, clapping his hands, delivering high-fives, having a good time, and motivating his students with a fiery enthusiasm. If you think he’s active in the water, check him out on the soccer field, where he is known as, “Marlon Loco”, that’s “Crazy Marlon”. His energy is limitless!

Background

Born and raised in Bahia Ballena, Marlon has been engaged with the ocean since his days as a youngster when he learned how to fish with his father. As a teenager, Marlon started surfing and slowly but surely left the soccer field behind as surfing became his addiction. With his natural ability and the soft waves of Playa Chaman, he was able to progress rapidly and continues to do so at his local surf break as well as at nearby surf spots such as Dominical and Playa Hermosa. In 2005 he placed 1st in a local surf contest!

Work Experience

Marlon’s work experience is diverse. He has witnessed, first hand, the process of his community’s development while working in local construction projects. He has also worked as a tour guide assistant, gardener in landscaping projects, and handy man.

Through his strong work ethic, commitment, and desire to learn Marlon has developed a wide variety of skills which help strengthen the group of Bodhi Surf instructors and contribute to a safe and enjoyable surfing experience for guests.

Surfing Experience

Surfing for Marlon has been life changing. At the age of 12 he grabbed a friend’s board and took to the waves of Bahia Ballena. Since that first time he has had many great surfing experiences, waking up early to see the sun rise over the mountains and staying out late for breath-taking sunsets. His fearless attitude, strength, and courage have taken him to secret river-mouth surf breaks where the waves have gotten to ten feet or bigger. And when the surf is pumping at his home break of Playa Chaman, and nobody else paddles out, you can be sure the speck you see out on the horizon is the one and only “Marlon Loco.”

When Not Working

Marlon is always busy, whether it is improving his surfing ability, building a house, teaching surf lessons, working as a tour guide’s assistant, or hanging with his son, he is always on the go.
